a word on my music...

I'm a european and my musical roots are european too (both east and the west). If any - the british music to some extent have influenced my way of thinkin'. Too much of todays popular music is related to America - I have nothing against american music as such mind you - but I hope my own work stands out as being a product of Europe and nowhere else.

The cadenza on which most popular music is based - is european. Never forget that ;-)

Eivind Fivelsdal - World Wide Life

As with much of the music on this page. This is not a finished tune. I need to brush up the lyrics somewhat. I've had good help doing that (thanks Huw!), but it's yet to be recorded. The mix is ofcourse also something that I will redo. On the other hand this is a nice tune. Enjoy!

Eivind Fivelsdal - Skipper Goes East

A little classical experiment I did a few years back. I like it. Some day I'd like to make more music for film. So if you want any music done - drop me a note.

Collab One - This Is For Real

(Eivind Fivelsdal with friends)

The internet can be used for collaborating with other musicians. The following tune is an experiment on the possibilities. With some internetfriends (whm I've neover met in my life) we made the tune This Is For Real using an ftp for uploading files containing the various tracks of instruments. A private forum was set up for us to discuss the tune as it were put together.

The tune is a crossover between rap and progrock. So it's sort of an experiment on musical style as well.

You will be hearing the following artists:

Clootie: Intro Grunge Bass, Intro pad, Pizzicato strings
Czeka: Rap, SFX
2bobguy: Clavithingy on choruses
Fukwit: "live"drum loops, logdrum-synth

Eivind Fivelsdal: Vocals, Evil-voice, Church-organ, Strings, Synths, Leadguitar, Bass, "Hammond", Rythmguitar, Filtered rythm-loops

I'm also responsible for stitchin' the track together and the overall production.

Czkea the rapper is based in Canada. He's also responsible for writing the rap-lyrics. You will also notice that at the end of the tune I use some of those lyrics for the singin' parts as well. Clootie lives in UK and myself - as you know - I'm in Norway.

Here are the result of our common efforts:

If you want to get in contact with any of the collaborators on the project - please send me an email and I'll see what I can do.

This collaboration was made possible by the kind services provided by the JLR-forum (discontinued).

Eivind Fivelsdal - The Shoplifter

Genuine 80's prog tune - recently recorded.. Click this link for a dedicated page for this tune.

Eivind Fivelsdal - Xmasgifts 2003

Eivind Fivelsdal wrote this song back in the early 80's. It was on the album No Reason To Feel Blue with Small Affars, but then in a uncomfortable 4/4-version. Eivind has recently recorded the song the way it originally was intended. The 7/4-version rocks along and gives the lyrics a natural place, as they are natural to the rythm.

There's now a newly mastered version to be downloaded.

Lord Of The Rings

Eivind Fivelsdal - A Shadow Of The Past

Eivind Fivelsdal wrote this song back in 1983. It was featured on the FoXTROT-album by the same name. Originally Fivelsdal wanted to write music to the words of Tolkien, but Anders Lind at Silence studios in Sweden who had collaborated with Bo Hansson (Who's music Lord Of The Rings became quite big), told Fivelsdal that Tolkiens relatives were quite strict on their rights and very hard to negotiate with.

Fivelsdal approached Lord Of The Rings by writing a song about reading the book. Like no other song related to Lord Of The Rings, A shadow Of The Past captures the journey from hobbiton to the mountain of doom. It has a very acient feel indeed.

Picture from the booklet. Dressed Up Like the Magician. The other images are from different concerts with FoXTROT (at that time Scandinavia). You may recognise Jan-Håkon Skarpsno on Drums and Harald Lytomt on Guitar. There's also pictures of Michael Sundt on Bass and Werner Grini on Guitar in the collage.

Picture from the X-mas-show in 1980. From the left: Jan-Håkon Skarpsno, Werner Grini, Michael Sundt and Eivind Fivelsdal.

This image was also used on Scandinavias official gigposter. The backdrops were painted by Per Kjemo and the lighting was done by Lars Høiby.

Eivind Fivelsdal - The Cube (excerpt)

Originally written for the opening of a club/cafê in Oslo. Never completed. The electronica intro is omitted here - although it uses some sounds from a radiotelescope and signals from Jupiter, as well as sounds made from a picture of a 11bill years old supernova. The thought behind that trick was to reduce the number of media between the big bang and this particular piece of music. This excerpt contains the more melodic parts as well as a more lively jazzy experiment towards the end.

Eivind Fivelsdal - Tribute to Vestland

I recored a medly of various traditional norwegian music. Actually it all took me less than a night to record and mix this one. Years back I got an old cassette where I could hear my grand-dad sing a small acapella tune. He died back in the 70's. I thought it would've been nice if I could make some music with the old man. So I dropped in his song and played some orchestra behind his voice - then I repeat the tune by singing it myself.

Anders Bauge, my grand dad. He played the Hardanger fiddle and also used to build them, like the one he's playing on the picture.

The compilation starts off with The Lost Sheep - the tune is also the main theme on the movie Fargo (I think it got some Oscar way back). Apart from the folklore I've written small bits of music to chain it all together. This is my litte tribute to the part of Norway from where I come, Western Norway.

Eivind Fivelsdal - Electro Mountain

There's supposed to be added vocals to this piece. It starts off with old computer game sounds (Commodore64), after which stuff gets really heavy. Can't wait to finish this one. There's also extensive use of a Yamaha TX-816 (monsterous 80's FM synth) and the Kawai K5000S.

Eivind Fivelsdal - The Kiwi Walk

A small tune with undertones from Greece and Italy I recon. I wrote for a friend of mine living in Crete.
